Who: Brooklyn families looking for ways to engage children in acts of giving
You’re invited to attend Brooklyn’s first ever Fifth Night Celebration. The Fifth Night is a fun, simple, age-appropriate way for young children to participate in Tzedakah, the Jewish tradition of charity, by giving one night of their Hanukkah gifts away to another child in need. By giving in a group setting, there is a shared energy and enthusiasm that makes Tzedakah both fun and rewarding. Together, we are also able to make a more significant contribution to a charity in need.
This year we’re thrilled to be partnering with Little Essentials, a community based non-profit (started by a local, Fort Greene-area mom!) that provides free baby and toddler (to age 4) clothing, furniture and other essential items to Brooklyn, NY families living in poverty.
After gift collecting, a communal candle lighting, some songs and a shared treat (dinner will not be served), a representative from Little Essentials will speak briefly to the children, thank them for their gifts, and describe how their donations will impact the recipients and their families. With the little ones in mind, we will be sure to keep the presentations short, and easy to understand.
Fifth Night Gift Giving Guidelines
· new, unopened and unwrapped gifts only
· gifts should be for children newborn to five years old
· bring one gift per each child attending
· if your child is old enough to understand, we believe that having him or her pick a gift for a child of the same age or gender will enrich the experience
Space is limited, so reserve your Brooklyn Fifth Night spots now!!!
(RSVPing early also helps us with planning for the event)
